University Web Templates
In order to assist webmasters with the branding initiative, University Marketing & Communications and Media Solutions have developed suites of web templates which adhere to the branding initiative. To use the templates “as is” you will need to be familiar with html or Dreamweaver. To customize the templates, you will need to be familiar with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).
Using the Web Templates
- Determine whether your department or organization will use the red, gray, or gold theme.
- Download your template package by selecting the desired color below.
- Request a custom web header graphic.
- Select a layout for your home page (basic, directory, etc.).
- Create your site pages using Dreamweaver or your favorite html editor.
- Refer to the Template Instructions (PDF) for tips on creating your site.
- Select images that have been sized and optimized for use with the University Web templates.
- Make sure your content is ADA (Section 508) compliant.
- Make your pages searchable.
- Update the footer with your webmaster e-mail, department name, phone, and address.

U Template Version History
The U templates are periodically updated and re-released as new features are added. You can always find the most current version of the templates here on this page.
- Version 1.0: March 2007
- Version 1.1: June 7, 2007
- Version 1.2: April 10, 2008 (current version)
Version 1.3 enhancements include:
- MyUtah.edu login removed because it was being used insecurely.
Version 1.2 enhancements include:
- Search box form action updated to be compliant with current University search engine.
- WebTrends code was added with a generic user ID.
- MyUtah.edu login validation script added.
Version 1.1 enhancements include:
- Organization name is now an image and replaces text-based title.
- Template now supports resizable text for browser zoom features. This allows low-vision users to increase display size of text while maintaining template format.
- Fine-tuning of visual elements and code.
